Adding comment <g>: I kicked this up to our MS salesrep; the reply
was something along the lines of "Microsoft understands that there
is an issue with this and is working on a reply, but has no response
to offer at this time."

If anyone wants to see the license text, it can be found in the file
d:\I386\EULA.TXT on the XP disk: it's the last sentence in the first
bullet item under the heading "GRANT OF LICENSE":

                    Except as otherwise permitted by the
      NetMeeting, Remote Assistance, and Remote Desktop
      features described below, you may not use the Product
      to permit any Device to use, access, display or run other
      executable software residing on the Workstation Computer,
      nor may you permit any Device to use, access, display,
      or run the Product or Product's user interface, unless
      the Device has a separate license for the Product.
