The ar.exe you are using should be dated December 2001 to work properly.

You should also make sure ranlib.exe is dated December 2001.

The fastest way to make this work is to set an environment variable:
set lfn=n
But then you will need to use short (8.3) file names.  The next fastest
way to get it working is to install the LFN TSR (a very small download)
which allows many old DJGPP images to work properly.

You can also update each of your executables with new versions which
should get you working.
