  OK, I see, but doesn't 

unsigned char *ucAr = new unsigned char[ASCIIVOL];
ifBinStrm.read((char *) ucAr, ASCIIVOL);

 mean that I am casting to (char *) instead to (unsigned char *)?

 I need to grab the bytes as raw sequeces of bits, that is why I need for them to be interpreted by the compiler as -unsigned-. I need for each "byte" to be able to hodl values from 0 to 255.

 Is there something I havent quite understood here?
