you give no information about what problems you encountered which makes it 
hard to provide help.

prompted by curiousity, i downloaded the core distribution (you don't 
mention where that can be found either), and compiled it using the provided 
makefile (in src/makefile.dj) and everything built with no errors.

i then downloaded the examples, and built a couple of them, no problem. 
there is a minor problem with the makefiles for the examples in that they 
specify gcc to be used, but don't link the C++ libraries. change gcc in 
those makefiles to gpp.

apart from that, make sure you have nasm.
