I sent the small test program in a previous message. It is 
small, I resend now:

      OPEN (UNIT=52,STATUS='SCRATCH')
      CALL SYSTEM('DIR G:\\USR\\TMP\\FORT*')
      READ(*,'()')
      STOP
      END

Of course, all the series of forta???? must be in this 
directory to abort the program.
