Since you use WinME, simply don't edit autoexec.bat; simply use msconfig
directly.
All you need to do is make PATH look right; something like

 PATH=C:\Djgpp\bin;C:\Windows;C:\Windows\System;C:\Windows\Command

should be fine. Then add a variable called DJGPP

 DJGPP=C:\Djgpp\djgpp.env

and you should be pretty much set.
