I'm guessing that you are using an old version of RHIDE (v1.4,
perhaps?) which had this problem.  Download the latest version from
http://www.lanet.lv/~pavenis/rhide.html, and the slow-down should go
away.

Many DJGPP users use Emacs as their IDE.  A DJGPP port of Emacs is
available from the same place where you downloaded DJGPP, get the file
v2gnu/emacs.README which will explain what to download and how to
install.  A native Windows port of Emacs is also available; see
ftp://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/windows/emacs/latest/README.
