The problems with _rename affects stubify.exe as well, and also the Patch 
utility.  You need at least stubify, so I'd suggest to rebuild it as well.
(You probably don't want to replace the entire libc.a with the CVS 
version, since that has many new features which might expose new exciting 
problems and distract you from the issue at hand.)
