if real mode is not a concern, winME may be treated as win9x.
when I need real-mode, I just boot up using an "emergency diskette" which
could be done in winME w/o any problems. and it boots quite fast if
a:\config.sys and a:\autoexec.bat refer to things residing on c: but not on
a:.
