Ah-hah, but at the time I wasn't comfortable with alpha-software, and the other solution was to use ActivePerl, which doesn't have the command-length limitations.  Therefore, not only have I not compiled the patches, but I don't even have the sources.

I think I'm after:
a) The sources (please, Eli -- I should have listened to you in the first place...)
b) Some advice on what I need to make/remake, and what I could break if i get it wrong.
