you might check out http://www.bruceeckle.com , he's uploaded his book
"Thinking in C++" to various sites across the internet. I know you
don't want language-specific stuff, but I would still suggest this
book just because (from my reading it) it talks quite a bit about
theory more than implementation. Hope that helps!
