Did you unzip the distribution on Windows?

If so, I think you will find that streambuf.h is shortened to stream~1.h, 
not to streambu.h.  The latter would have worked in plain DOS mode.

Setting LFN has no effect on DOS, only on Windows.

What you want, or so it seems, is a dual-boot system where you can
compile and run programs both in plain DOS and on Windows.  If so, the
DJGPP FAQ explains how to set up such a system in section 22.19.
