Sorry, that's what I meant by Safe Mode DOS.
Sorry I can't get you more information much quicker - I'm in the middle
of exams atm, and I can only get into the computer lab randomly. I'll
try to copy out some BIOS settings - mine's one of those user-friendly
graphical ones that doesn't expose you to many cache- and
chipset-related options.
Although I'm not executing autoexec.bat, I've got a batch file called
setup.bat which sets PATH=, DJGPP= and loads doskey. The path includes
my \WINDOWS\COMMAND directory, then \DJGPP\BIN and \NASM. Nothing
untoward there, I assumed? In the way of bizzare peripheral devices, the
only slight difference I have is my SCSI card, which DOS doesn't
recognize.
Having said all this, the whole thing's behaving itself a lot better
recently without much input from myself. It will now usually crash only
the first time you run make - after that it's usually fairly reliable
until you reboot.
