libwin has some functions to do this nicely. See:

Be sure to apply the patch if you're using gcc 2.95.2. There may be some
problems if you use binutils 2.9.5.1 beta, but I can forward you a mail
with the fixes, if needed. I intend to release a fixed version sometime
soon.
