Since ssize_t is signed, the values should be -128..127.

BTW, why is djgpp's size_t typedef'd as long unsigned int while
ssize_t is just int?  Of course it doesn't really matter as long as
long and int are both 32 bits, but it doesn't look very pedantic ;-)
