Yes: get a working BIOS ;-)

That's because you know nothing about the RHIDE guts! RHIDE uses the VGA BIOS
service needed to save the current VGA mode state. This service have shown to
be buggy in many BIOSes. One interesting case is the Matrox BIOS, a lot of
boards from Matrox (millenium, Mistique, etc.) shown a similar behavior in the
past. I investigated it sending small test programs to somebody with this
problem and we found the code in the BIOS was just crap and the restore VGA
state function just left the video board in an unusable state. All the
problems were fixed after an upgrade. So I don't see why it couldn't be the
case here.
Now, if you want to really do some test start downloading SETEdit, it will
show the same behavior, but you can choose to bypass the BIOS call and let the
editor to do the save/restore manually (at registers level). If it also fails
then we can search another source of problems.

Now tell me how many of these programs can restore a (tweaked) 90x34 text mode
at exit.
