I'm happy to report that the problem I reported last week about a file
handle leak has been solved. It is not a bash problem at all, as Eli
correctly suggested, nor is it a DJGPP problem at all.

Basically, the Win98SE Resource Kit documentation is not accurate
everywhere (one hesitates to say "lies", due to the litiginous society
we live in, but draw your own conclusions). The RK docs in one place
say that leaving FILES= out of the CONFIG.SYS file results in a
default of FILES=127 being used. Further research indicates that
FILES=60 is the actual default (incorporated into "IO.SYS", according
to another place in the RK docs).

Thank you, Eli, for putting me on the right path here. Yet another
lesson for me in the wisdom of RTFM *first*...:)
