No, it's not hard-coded. If it were, Info could not have found the
file kb.info when you type "info knowledge", or the file gdbint.info
when you type "info gdb-internals".

The secret is that the file info/DIR has entries like this:

  * Faq: (djgppfaq).

The string inside the parentheses tells Info what file to look for,
possibly with one of the known extensions (.info, .inf, etc.).

This is all documented in the Texinfo manuals, btw.

They are two different ways of achieving the same goal: linking C++
programs without having to mention C++ libraries on the command
line. gpp is a port of g++, while gxx was written for DJGPP and comes
with djdevNNN.zip. The version of gxx from djdev203.zip might be less
sensitive to LFN-related snafus.

Lots of DJGPP-specific improvements and a few general ones. For the
full story, see the files NEWS and msdos/README.djgpp in the
distribution. In general, those files is the place where you should
look for answers to such questions.

For Emacs: "M-x set-variable RET visible-bell RET t RET" (the file
_emacs.xmpl in the distribution shows, among lots of other useful
things, how to make this setting permanent).

For Bash: put the following on your _bashrc file:

  set bell-style visible
