            Please give me the *exact* string printed by Bash.
            >       echo \"$TMPDIR\"

"c:/djgpp/tmp" (copied and pasted directly from the DOS window.)

         The latest version of Bash is v2.03.  I suggest to upgrade to
           bash203b.zip and see if the problem is still there.
I downloaded and installed v2.03.  I'm still getting the same error message:
         "fatal: can't create pipes"
