I had all kinds of trouble with the computer crashing when using DJGPP
programs and I learned this: that it wasn't DJGPP per se that was
causing the trouble. My computers (several labs worth) would crash
whenever *any* process switched the video mode TO or FROM a DOS mode
screen to a Windows mode screen. The solution (after the usual hair
loss) was to bring up the desktop properties, settings, advanced
properties, performance, and turn hardware acceleration OFF. Since then,
no crashes. Interestingly, this was completely unnecessary on my older
computers with simpler video adapters, say Trident 9660; only the new
ones like QDI Vision.
