My K7 PC is very stable. It really is hard to talk about stability
under that trash sindows because it (windows) crashes so oftten
and is so unstable ;-) .
The Motherboard I used is the Asus K7M motherboard which has
the VIA and AMD cipsets as the north and south bridges. Gigabyte
also sell's a good Motherboard. To ensure good stability for the
Asus K7M you have to make sure that the PSU can deliver about
300 Watts (250 is OK but 300 is the reccomended).
About the Alpha, I should have been a bit more clear in my
statement that i was referring to x86 chip's.

Hey I Care :-)
If you have the money then the Alpha is good enough but IMHO
you should go for a x86 chip because if you want to play one of the
latest 3D games you'l have a problem as many popular 3D Games
(expect Quake) aren't written for Linux and your AMD K6 233's age
might be telling these day's.
The Athlon gives Super performance expecially for 3D, and FPU
intensive algorithm's and besides it beats the Intel X86 Chip's.
If you are intersted there was a review on CNET's Gamecenter
<http://www.gamecenter.com> about the various processor's
(including the Alpha) and there benefit's and disadvantages. It
might be interesting for you to check out if you are thinking about
buying a new machine. There is a link in the main page but you
can get quickly there buy doing a search from gamecenter for
words like Athlon etc.
