Hmmm...posted an answer from my worthless home ISP that didn't seem to get
through -- trying again from work!

Ada was developed to meet a Department of Defense requirement for a language
for writing large embedded programs. Among the goals were very high
reliability, support for large development teams, and efficient code
generation (this was a problem in the beginning, but now Ada code
performance is as good or better than C code performance). Ada sees lots of
use in areas such as aircraft and space systems, air traffic control,
medical devices, etc. The current version, Ada95, is comparable in scope to
C++, but I think it's a *much* nicer language.  It's also got built-in
concurrency. A very nice, safe and portable general-purpose language.
