There are two errors in the code you posted. * You called clear before allegro_init, this won't work. * That call used BITMAP* back before it pointed to a bitmap. (The load_bitmap call creates one, before that, back's value is undefined.) BTW, there is really no need to clear a bitmap if you load it from a file.
