(Incremental) searching puts the mark where you started searching
automatically, so C-x C-x at the end would be enough.

You don't *have* to use that. Press RET to get into non-interactive
mode.

Yes, in MS-DOS 7.0 (Win95) and up, EDIT can open multiple files.
