This frustrated me for about 20 minutes until I figured out:

If you're running DJGPP from command.com, add -lalleg to
the end of the command line. If you're running DJGPP from
Salvador's excellent Borland clone RHIDE, go to menu
Options > Libraries. Type the word
    alleg
into the big box, and click the checkbox next to it.
