If no one here can help (please wait for a couple of days before you 
decide), you might consider sending the question, together with a simple 
test case, to binutils AT sourceware DOT cygnus DOT com, the Binutils mailing list.  
There it will be read by seevral people who know a lot about Binutils, 
including the Binutils maintainer.
