But it's not the library distribution that is ``screwed up''.

y1 is a widely-used mathematical function (one of the Bessel functions, 
to be exact).  It is part of libm.a that is distributed with DJGPP, and 
its docs is in libm.info. 

The right solution, as someone already pointed out, is to not use global 
variables called y1; or, if you must, compile with -ansi switch which 
will exclude the y1 prototype from being seen by the compiler.
