I left DPMI ON.

The older kernal would spontaneously reboot if one tried to run a program
compiled with djgpp (in my case the dos port of gnu bash), unless cwsDPMI
was available and DPMI was temporarily turned OFF.

However, with the new 7.03 version and its improved DPMI server, everything
seems to work find with DPMI turned ON (see your EMM386 DPMI=ON line in
config.sys) and cwsDPMI removed. It seems to run visibly faster, too, but
perhaps that's my imagination.

Sounds like a job for a system floppy.
