There are a lot of things in there that are used in the compilation process as well.
If you want more information on some of the programs in there, type:

    info

at the dos prompt.
Specifically look at the binutils, utils, diffutils, fileutils, findutils, idutils,
sh-utils and textutils sections.
NOTE: Some of these may not be installed on your system.
