It generally uses the current working directory to save your EXE unless you
specify with a project. This has known to be a problem when run from Windows
Explorer or as  a shortcut because the working directory tends to be the
DJGPP\BIN, along with all the other compiler tools.

To force a specific output file and directory, go Project, Main Targetname
and specify a complete path and EXE name.

Not on it's own. You must create a project and it will save your preferences
along with the project. There is a save preferences option in the options
menu, but it still saves a project style file.
