Some key combinations cause problems on some keyboards. The demo's combination that you have experienced problems with, works very well with my keyboard, so it's very unpredictable and it isn't Allegro's fault, blame your keyboard... ;-)

BTW one of the reasons for making it possible to setup the keys from within a game is exactly this - as you don't know whether your default key combination will cause problems with the user's keyboard, you have to make it possible for him to change it. Though of course it's also very irritating when the game has an insane default (I have often wondered if the programmer of a game was using his nose to press some of the keys).
