Hi all:

Last monday I was talking with Jose Lacal (he was in Argentina for
business stuff), he have a very interesting project:

http://www.volks-pc.org/

Basically Jose wants to give life to 386/486s providing an Open Source
DOS distribution. Why? for at least two very important reasons:

1) Not all the people (most of them in fact) in the world can afford a
full PC.
2) 386/486s are trashed in many places of the world.

What about Linux? Well it have some problems for it:

1) Harder to learn.
2) Hard to be productive with a 386 + 4Mb using Linux, I think it won't
easilly run a graphic internet browser, but the same machine can boot
FreeDOS, load a packet driver and use Aracne.

What djgpp have to do with it? I think djgpp is by far the better
compiler for programs that will be included in this project.

Is Jose a boy that likes to dream? perhaps, but he isn't a boy, he is
the Procuct Manager of the VoIP Carrier Siemens' product worldwide, I
think he knows something about products and similar stuff ;-)

I also remmember a mail by DJ talking about creating a djgpp CD for
schools, well I think that's a way to do it.

Currently Jose isn't in Munich, after Buenos Aires he had to visit
Bogota and then Caracas (Siemens work), but he told me he will be soon
working again in the project.

Greetings, SET

P.S. He contacted me because of my editor.
