Due to electronic breakdown I reinstalled WinNT4.0 yesterday and
decided to try SP5 (US english version). 

Beside some other positive surprises (not belonging to this 
newsgroup/mailing list) all my DJGPP compiled programs run fine with SP5.

Therefore I CANNOT confirm the above problem. DPMI (v0.9) is available
(and yes my programs use lots of memory).

Comment: To my personal experience it is always a BIG difference
whether you install a single SP over a new (from CD) installation of WinNT
or if you upgrade SPs subsequently. 
If you can manage it, do the former. It takes some time to reinstall all the
programs you want, but at the end it will have saved you much time you otherwise
spent on fixing some obscure bugs.
