First of all: Is there in fact a null character (ascii 0) in your
source?  If so, get rid of it.

If not, what OS and DPMI server are you using, and does the message
persist if you restart the compilation?

The reason I ask is that I have seen messages like this (on correct
sources) in dosemu, and they do go away on retrying.  I believe it's due
to a subtle memory corruption bug which I'm investigating, and I wonder
if your problem has any relation.  (Though in this case, I'm inclined to
suspect that your source really does contain a null.)
