I only use mesa under linux, so am no expert on
the dos port, but
http://www.mesa3d.org/lxr/source/README.DOS
says that there is no vesa support for djgpp yet,
so I guess that this is your problem. Try converting
the examples to mode 13hex, as support is added
for this.
