Huh?  COMMAND.COM doesn't support the `command` expansion.  You
probably mean that you invokd Perl from COMMAND.COM, and Perl used
`cat`, right?

It means what it says: some library function got called with an
invalid argument (probably a NULL pointer).

I suggested to set the TMPDIR environment variable to point to an
existing, writable directory.  Did you try that?  I think this is your
problem.
