There is also an alternative to tell RHIDE to show you
the user screen always when your program exited. Go to
Options/Environment/Prefernces
and select there the "Show user screen after exit" option.

RHIDE remembers always the latest user scrren status. So if you
might interrupted or exited your own program (started from within
RHIDE) which leaves the screen in such a state (gray background and
so on) you will have this screen, when switchin to DOS.

Again: In general there is no need to use the Shell feature
of RHIDE, since you can do nearly everything inside RHIDE.
So try to use it only in rare cases.
