Yep, this is typical for an LFN-related snafu.  FWIW, it's even
described in the file PROBLEMS (look for the word "flashing").

I hope Emacs 20 won't have such problems, since case-table is already
loaded into it when it builds, and any files it loads at startup don't
exceed 8+3 limits.
