No, the behavior you see is correct. Look at the echo area (the last
line of the display, below the mode-line): it says ``Moving "Prev" in
this window''. The wording might need some work, but Info tells you
that it moved to the PREVious node.

Both <SPC> and <DEL> are not confined to the current node, they assume
you are moving through the entire document in a certain direction. If
you want to stay inside a node, use PageUp and PageDown instead.

It's possible, you just need to be patient ;-).

You are reading the Info tutorial, and tutorials are written to hold
your hand all the way down the road. You need to trust your tutor and
do exactly as he/it says.

In this case, you need to press <SPC> until the longish list of all
info commands is exhausted. There, at the very end, you will see
this:

	--- Use `l' or `C-x k' to exit ---

(that's an `ell' not the digit `1'). Got that?

If you want to switch to the upper part of the display, `C-x o' (`o'
for `other') will do that. These (and other) advanced commands aren't
explained in the tutorial, but <?> displays all of them; I suggest to
try every interesting command in that list.

The complete list of Info commands and features is described and
explained in the standalone Info program docs (choose the item called
"info program" in the "Texinfo" group from the main menu). You are
supposed to read this manual after you are done with the tutorial.

The behavior of the program doesn't depend on the screen size.

If you want email replies, please make a small effort and set up your
headers so that they include a real address. People who reply to many
messages, like myself, cannot afford to spend their time editing
anti-spam from addresses.
