First, should I use float or double as my innerloop variables?
Which one is actually faster, or do they have any difference?

And then, does djgpp do any float-integer optimization? I have
a texturemapper innerloop (perspective corrected, of course),
which has both integer and float values. As MPU is capable of
doing things 'on background', does djgpp utilize this, or should
I rewrite my innerloops myself?
