I myself hadn't time to study exceptions handling in details. I posted some
time ago test example that ilustrates exceptions problems with egcs.
Some of messages went to djgpp-workers mailing list. I also tried
newer snapshot of egcs. For Linux it was simple, but for DJGPP I used
cross-compiler from Linux as it was much simpler for me to build 
cross-compiler as native one for DJGPP). Results shortly:
   with egcs snapshot I tried exceptions with DJGPP does not work at all and
   there were problems also under Linux

   with egcs-1.1 option -fsjlj-exceptions is broken both for Linux and
   DJGPP, also known problems under DJGPP

   I didn't met evident problems with gcc-2.8.1 for DJGPP
