Hi
I've been programing for about two years now and want to start programing
graphics.
I have learnt a lot about algorithims and data structures, but don't know
anything about outputing text or graphics so that it looks appealing.

I know this is a fairly general and vague question, but could some one tell
me where I need to start looking, or what I need to do to be able to for
example, format text to different sizes or to even print bitmaps and the
like. I have read in this news group a lot about allegro, but I don't know
what it is. Is it somehow related to what I am wanting to do?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
