In my opinion, most of the ready libraries that try to do
everything suck rocks, and hard. I myself usually prefer to
edit existing routines (for example, my sprite routine) to
do varius things, little differently. If I were to use a ready
routines someone has made, those little modifications would
take a hell of a lot of work - just because I don't know the
basis and ideas they are based on! So, after all, I have found
it to require less work to write my own routines, from scratch.
Or if I have to base my routines on something (like IPX, which
would've been really hard to make work all my own), I study
and rewrite the source, resulting code that I do understand.
