a quote from the egcs homepage:

"egcs is an experimental step in the development of GCC, the GNU C
compiler. If you are new to the egcs project, you should probably read
the egcs mission statement . "

the project lives at http://egcs.cygnus.com/

Yet another gcc port, though it is thought to be a little more current,
it is also experimental. I use it with MinWg32 with no ill effects.
