Other messages have said what vsync does, but an easy message to stop it
wasting time is to use tripple buffering, where you have three buffers,
and when you are waiting for the vsync to blit buffer one on the screen,
you can be drawing onto the third buffer.  This should save some time
when the program gets more complicated.
