I suspect you edited your AUTOEXEC.BAT in DOS mode both times.  The
problem is that DOS mode uses its own AUTOEXEC.BAT, which is usually
named like AUTOEXEC.000 and copied to AUTOEXEC.BAT when you switch
into the DOS mode, then deleted/renamed when you switch back.

One way to be sure your additions work is to edit all the AUTOEXEC.*
files you can find.
