This problem and how to solve it is explained in section 22.17 of the
DJGPP FAQ list (v2/faq211b.zip from the same place you get DJGPP).

One way is to use the `unexpand' program from the GNU Textutils
distribution (v2gnu/txt122b.zip).  I believe RHIDE can do that as
well, but I don't know the particulars.
