A free C/C++ compiler written by the GNU project (see www.gnu.org for
more info).  Actually, GCC stands for Gnu C Compiler.  Originally it ran
only on Unix systems, so DJGPP brought it to DOS.  Nowadays DJGPP
includes many more tools than just the compiler, but GCC is still at the
center of things.
