gcc says it all: check to see if you have as.exe in your path. If you
don't have it, you can find it on simtel in djgpp/v2gnu/bnu2xxb.zip 
(you probably also don't have things like ld.exe, ar.exe, ranlib.exe
 nm.exe etc. install those too (the're in the same zip))

PS You're doing the right thing by unzipping with PKZIP on NT.
