There is a known bug in which `tmpfile' may not open the file in binary
mode, like it is supposed to-- is this perhaps what you're running
into?  A patch and fixed library is available at:

http://www.cartsys.com/eldredge/djgpp-patches.html

You may want to wait a day or so; I am about to upload a fixed version
which corrects a bug in one of the patches.
